Q&A: Question about pool maintenance and set up?

Question by Ao: Question about pool maintenance and set up?
I'm buying a 20' x 4' pool, above ground. This is my first experience with owning a pool, so I really don't know the best way to set it up and take care of the pool. I know I need to level the ground first, and we plan buying sand to do so.

What kinds of chemicals/cleaners do I need to buy at first, and monthly afterwards? How often should I use them?

Should I invest in a saltwater system? (Is it cheaper? Easier?)

I've seen many complain that the filter that comes with the pool isn't big enough for the size of the pool, what size would work best for a 20' pool? Also, what kind of cleaning equipment should I buy?

Should I worry about nearby trees?

What would you say the monthly costs of pool chemicals, plus filters are?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the amount of questions. icon smile Q&A: Question about pool maintenance and set up?

First, the volume of your pool is about 10,000 gallons.

There is no way to tell you exactly what you need to put into the water as municipal water supplies vary too much. Your best bet is to get a clean glass jar (clean lid) and take a sample to a local pool chemical supply. They will test the water and tell you (and SELL YOU) the exact chemicals you need.

You'll have to look on line at saltwater sanitizing systems. They add to your initial cost but, they are cheaper to run/maintain.

With regard to trees ... You need not worry BUT, the trees will litter up your pool when they lose leaves. It would be wise to get an appropriate plastic cover for the pool. The surface area of your pool is 314 square feet but, you'll need sheets of plastic that will cover a minimum of 400 square feet as the plastic comes in sheets that are rectangular, not round.

There is not accurate way to determine your pool costs or filters as those are determined by pool use, external temperature, wind ... and those pesky leaves. You'll need to monitor the chemicals and keep them balanced.

Polaris Swimming Pool Cleaner – The Full Deal

Article by Smithdcosta

Pools that are well maintained remain pathogen free. This means that bacteria and other small living organisms are not given the chance to grow in the pool and cause havoc. Not maintaining your pool could result in some serious ailments such as skin allergies and infections. Your dip in the cool waters to relax on a summer day could turn into a nightmare.

One of the most important elements of pool maintenance is to ensure that the pool is kept clean. To ensure a high level of sanitation, you will need a high performance cleaner. The Polaris swimming pool cleaner could be just what you need.

The competition in the swimming pool cleaner industry is quite stiff. There are many brands with various models to choose from. However, Polaris is admittedly one of the top brands in the industry. The brand has won the hearts of many pool owners and pool cleaning companies. It is an easy favorite in the country.

The reasons that the Polaris swimming pool cleaner is so popular are obvious. The cleaners are durable. This ensures that you will not have to purchase another cleaner for a long period of time making them an economical choice. The brand also offers a wide variety of cleaning solutions including suction cleaners, cleaners with booster pumps and those without and robotic cleaners. There are cleaners to meet practically all swimming pool cleaning needs.

If the Polaris swimming pool cleaner is so good, how can you possibly get the best bargains?

Well, you will have to start with determining the type of cleaner you want for your pool. Remember that there are two main types of pools. There are the in ground pools and the above ground pools. It is therefore important to establish which type of cleaners will do best with your type of pool.

When you have identified the general categories suitable for cleaning your pool type, you will have to determine the functionality you want in your cleaner. This is dependent on the level of involvement you want to have in the cleaning process. If you want to stand and hold onto the cleaner then you can go for one of the manual models. If you simply want the pool cleaned; and do not want to have to stick around for it, the more independent robotic cleaners will be better suited for you.

You can go through the different models of the Polaris swimming pool cleaner online. Read the reviews that have been written about the cleaners. Ensure that you are reading an independent review so that you will get an unbiased point of view of the products functionality. You can also ask dealers in your area what they think about different products before you compare prices.

A polaris swimming pool cleaner will offer you high performance cleaning services. However, it is important to choose the right cleaner for your pool.

Pool Equipment: Choosing an Automatic Swimming Pool Cleaner

Pool Equipment: Choosing an Automatic Swimming Pool Cleaner

An automatic swimming pool cleaner is absolutely the best piece of swimming pool equipment a pool owner can invest in. Manually cleaning a swimming pool is very time consuming and few pool owners enjoy this tedious task. An automatic swimming pool cleaner allows you to spend less time maintaining your swimming pool, and more time relaxing and enjoying your pool! There is a wide selection of automatic pool cleaners available for any budget, and every size In-Ground or Above-Ground swimming pool. There are three different types of automatic pool cleaners for In Ground pools and Above Ground pools, and they are classified by the way they collect debris and move around the pool. "Suction Side" automatic pool cleaners are connected to your pool skimmer and "Pressure Side" automatic pool cleaners connect to a return line fitting of your pool. "Robotic" pool cleaners work independently from your pool filtration system, and are powered by electricity.

Suction Side automatic pool cleaners use the suction power created by your filtration system to propel a pool cleaner around your swimming pool, and pick up debris from the pool floor. Suction side automatic pool cleaners are connected to the skimmer of the pool, and dirt and debris collected from the pool is deposited directly into your filtration system. Suction side automatic pool cleaners are very easy to connect to your swimming pool and to use. These pool cleaners may have an advantage over pressure side pool cleaners, because very little or no adjustments or additional parts are typically needed to adapt a suction side pool cleaner to your swimming pool. Examples of popular suction side automatic pool cleaners are the Hayward Pool Vac or Kreepy Krauly.

Pressure Side automatic pool cleaners connect to the return line fitting in the wall of your swimming pool. Pressure side automatic pool cleaners use a powerful jet of water to move around your swimming pool, and a jet of water is used to draw debris up from the pool surface into a special filter bag connected to the pool cleaner. Pressure side pool cleaners may have an advantage over suction side cleaners because they are typically more powerful and can climb the walls of an inground swimming pool. Because pressure side automatic pool cleaners are connected to the return line fitting of the swimming pool, the pool skimmer is left open to draw dirty water and debris from the surface of the pool. These pool cleaners act as a roving return line, and help eliminate "dead spots" in the swimming pool which are not reached by the circulating action of the main filter system. These pool cleaners deposit debris into a special filter bag instead of inside your pool filter system. Some pressure side pool cleaners feature their own "booster pump", which works independently from your main pool filter system to create the extra water pressure needed for these powerful cleaners. Examples of popular pressure side automatic pool cleaners are most Polaris and most Letro brand pool cleaners.

Robotic automatic pool cleaners feature a built in filtration system, and operate independently from your main pool filter system. No cumbersome hoses or tedious adjustments are required. These self-contained automatic pool cleaners use on board electric motors to move around your pool and create the suction necessary to pick up debris from the pool surface. As these robotic pool cleaners move about cleaning the pool surface, they constantly circulate and filter your swimming pool water. A robotic pool cleaner will pick up debris from the pool floor, and can also climb the walls and steps of an inground swimming pool. These pool cleaners are designed to scrub the water line of the swimming pool, and regular use of a robotic swimming pool cleaner will eliminate the water line stain found on most outdoor pools.

Robotic pool cleaners save a great deal of money in operating costs, because these pool cleaners do not require your pool pump and filtration system to be running for the pool cleaner to work. This also means you do not have to clean your filtration system after each use, using more electricity and losing chemically treated water through the filter backwash cycle. Robotic pool cleaners are available in many sizes and models designed for average size above ground swimming pools, up to the largest commercial facilities and water parks. Many robotic pool cleaners feature a hand held remote control, giving the pool owner complete control over the movements of the pool cleaner. This allows very quick and easy spot cleaning. The most common robotic swimming pool cleaner on the market today is the Aquabot pool cleaner.

Different Types of Automatic Above Ground Pool Vacuums and Cleaners Defined

Different Types of Automatic Above Ground Pool Vacuums and Cleaners Defined

People put a pool on their land, or purchase homes with one, because they wish to benefit from the rewards that a swimming pool can offer. But one of the chief difficulties with them, is the work they could take to keep them clean and healthy. Though you may set up a filtration system in the pool itself, there are still a few spots that only above ground pool vacuums can deal with. Before purchasing one, however, it is helpful to be aware of the different types of cleaners on the market and their uses. That way you'll understand exactly what to look out for when picking a brand and model.

1. Suction side Cleaners - these cleaners rely on the suction and filtration system of the pool. This is especially helpful for cleaning up the base of the pool without having to grip the swimming pool cleaner in your hand all the time. It's fully automatic so you are able to leave it operating on its own.

One problem you may face is when there are too many leaves or other stray vegetation falling in the pool. This clogs up the filters, so choose a different type of cleaner if you reside in a leafy locality.

These are the cheapest sorts of swimming pool cleaners you will find. So that's a distinct advantage.

2. Pressure side Cleaners - these types of pool vacuums work on the pressure that's being produced by the water pump. Unlike the suction-side 1, this variety employs a bag to contain the dirt that it removes from the pool, so you do not have to think about your filter becoming blocked up.

The issue with these though is that pretty tiny particles might get through the bag that's being used by the cleaner and wind up back on the bottom.

3. Robotic Swimming Pool Vacuums - these kinds of above ground pool vacuums run independently of the filtration system of your pool. This means you do not need hoses in order to them. They have internal electric motors and are driven by being plugged into an electrical socket. They're ready programmed to pump the dirt, grime and other debris, found in your pool, straight into the internal filters.

Robotic pool cleaners are the costliest, with prices running from about 400 dollars all the way to as high as two thousand dollars. But, despite the price, this type of cleaner will almost definitely work the best, so you will want to balance your needs beside your finances.

If you do not require something as innovative as this, then a model of one of the two types mentioned previously will probably be the best for you.

Swimming Pool Cleaner

Swimming Pool Cleaner

Article by Scott Tomiko

Keeping your swimming pool clean does not have to be a full-time job. Also, do not pay to have your pool kept clean. Instead of vacuuming your swimming pool by hand, look at an automatic pool cleaner.

The first two are basic maintenance and upkeep of your swimming pool water. There is only one step to actually assemble the automatic pool cleaner. This allows Wanda the Whale to work properly. Wanda works off of the vacuum created by your pool pump/filter. The turbine improves water circulation by pulling water from the pool bottom as it movesThis steering system ensures the whole bottom of the pool is cleaned quickly and completely.

Slotted shoes for quick turns - The Wanda the Whale comes with flexible vinyl shoes that permit it to travel around the pool without damaging your pool liner. Pool pump - I used to run my pool filter 24 hours a day for the entire swimming season. To figure out how long to run your pool pump is quite simple. Take the total pool volume (gallons) divided by gallons per minute (gpm). Gallons per minute (gpm) are located on your pool pump. This figure is the amount of time to filter your pool water once, double this number to get the total time to filter your pool water twice. You do not need to run the Wanda the Whale Above-Ground Automatic Pool Cleaner for the entire time your pump is running. 1 year warranty on Wanda the Whale Above-Ground Automatic Pool Cleaner should there be any defects or problems.

If your pool has any major folds from your pool liner or any dents/depressions on your pool floor then you may not get a complete cleaning of your pool.

Hayward also has a few other above-ground automatic pool cleaners. Hayward 700 Diver Dave Above-Ground Automatic Pool Cleaner and Hayward 500 Aqua Bug Above-Ground Automatic Pool Cleaner are the other main above ground pool cleaners.

Above Ground Pool Ladders

Above Ground Pool Ladders
What are above ground pool ladders? With an above ground pool, no matter what size or height, you should always have a ladder. These ladders make entering your pool much easier, without the risk of damaging the sides or top of your pool. In many cases they are attached to the top ring of your pool, with simple screws. However, if you are new to these pools, then here are some tips to help you pick the right ladder for your needs.

One of the most important things about pool ladders is that they have to be made from high quality durable materials. Most quality ladders are made from lightweight but strong aluminum, or a steel frame that is coated not just to protect it from the water, but also to make it safer, both to the user as well as the pool itself. The rungs are constructed from high impact ABS plastic, so they will withstand plenty of use.

Weight is an important consideration when it comes to an above ground pool steps. Your ladder should be able to hold at least two hundred and fifty pounds, go well over the top of your pool, and have a platform at the top and extend down into itself to make climbing in and out easy. The outer legs should rest firmly on the ground without slipping, and if you ladder extends all the way to the bottom of your pool, it should also have rubber feet. This will not only prevent damage to the pool's bottom, but also prevent slippage.

Not all pools are the same. Some have frames that hold up the sides, others are free standing, so it is important that you find above ground ladders that fit the size and shape of your pool. The ladder should have an A shaped design, with space enough that it isn't going to touch or rub against the side of your pool.

Cost is always an important factor when it comes to pool ladders. While you shouldn't always go with the cheapest, you shouldn't have to pay more than a hundred dollars for a quality pool ladder. A lot is going to of course depend on the size of the ladder and what features it has. If you want the best prices and selection, your best option when it comes to pool ladders is to shop online. There are many quality dealers, that offer a number of choices when it comes to these products.

A few things to note about above ground ladders. One is that you want a ladder that is going to be safe for your children to use. Another is that no matter what, you need to supervise the swimming of smaller children. If possible, when you are done for the day you should always remove the ladder, and put a cover on the pool so they won't accidentally drown. Since many ladders have to be assembled before using, be sure to follow all the instructions, and heed any safety warnings on the package.

Welcome to My Easy Set Pools, inside you will discover an amazing selection of low priced and excellent quality above ground pool ladders.
